Here at Whispering Horse Ranch, a lot of love and care
goes into our horses. They are fed daily rations of grain and
hay in the winter. They get their hoofs trimmed every 6 - 8
weeks. Their teeth must be floated (sharp points filed down)
on a regular basis so that they can chew their food without
painful jabs from overgrown teeth.
They must be given wormer every 6 - 8 weeks. They
receive yearly shots for rabies, West Nile virus, several
different flu strains and other diseases that could threaten
their health and/or lives (none of which can be contracted by
humans).
They also receive ongoing training, and of course, must be
thoroughly groomed on a regular basis and always before
every party. As you can see, a lot of time and money goes
into each of our horses to keep them in tip-top condition.
Some of our
bigger horses
get a little
bored waiting
for their turn to
have their
hoofs trimmed!
Rex keeps his eye on the pasture while
he waits patiently for his "pedicure."
The farrier carefully trims Buster, Diplomat,
and Diva's hoofs so that they will be
comfortable and balanced.
Now it's Rex's turn!

Some of the dogs
wait patiently for
the hoof clippings...
Believe it or not,
they make for a
tasty dog treat!
"Just what exactly are you doing
back there, buddy?"
"I'm going to bite you!"
"No, I'M going to bite YOU!"

they're only

Every year at the end of summer, we buy enough hay to last through the winter for all the horses and
goats, which is around 130 bales of hay! That's a LOT of hay to unload and store in the barn. Each
bale weighs around 60 pounds. That starts to get really heavy after the first few bales!
